Local organization announces second solar installation project in India

Solar Village Project (SVP), a local non-profit organization whose mission is to install and manage micro solar-solution technology in rural villages in India, has announced its second installation project, the Kihare Village Project.

SVP's second project will provide electricity to every home in Kihare Fields, a small, rural community located in the state of Bihar, India. SVP installs home lighting and basic electrical systems powered by micro solar-solution technology to village homes.

In the summer of 2014, SVP successfully completed its first major installation project, The Gauterine Village Project. Joe Kselman, Solar Village Project Director and co-founder, recently discussed the group's first project. "The lessons learned from our initial project in the Gauterine Village will undoubtedly guide us during this second project," he said.

"Gauterine Village demonstrated our approach to providing micro solar-solution technology one home at-a-time does work. We're excited to get over to Kihare Fields and do more for the community there while continuing to learn and improve for future projects."

The electricity derived from SVP-installed solar panels is used to power electrical lighting systems for night time use and electrical outlets used for charging technology devices, mostly cell phones.

Electrical light eliminates the need to use physically and environmentally toxic, kerosene-burning lighting solutions that are the current, predominant lighting solution in many Eastern Indian villages. Currently, villagers often must walk long-distances to charge cell phones, which can provide quick access to life-saving amenities, including medical assistance in emergencies.

SVP is also currently running its second Indiegogo crowd source funding campaign to raise financial resources for The Kihare Fields Project.

Founded in 2015, Solar Village Project is a 501(c)(3) recognized not-for-profit organization based in Takoma Park, Maryland. It mission is to develop and implement sustainable solutions for the provision of electricity to villages in India using micro solar-solution technology.
